Santa Cruz de Tenerife, September 2015.- For the third consecutive year, the charity tennis and paddle tournament “RAQUETAS SOLIDARIAS” has ended in success, having raised funds for one of the numerous NGO’s with which the business group cooperates with, in this case, SOS Children’s Villages.

With a total of 120 participants, the weekend in the Gran Hotel Bahía del Duque was an important appointment of entrepreneurs, directives and familiar faces who enjoyed the facilities of the Hotel as well as all the activities designed to transport them to the legendary atmosphere of the Brazilian beaches of Copacabana of the 1940’s. For example, during the gala dinner event of last Saturday, the dance troupe Los Danzarines Canarios surprised the guests with an impressive choreography and batucada which lasted over 20 minutes, and where the Queen of the Carnival 2015 joined unexpectedly wearing the fantasy that led to her crowning as the Tenerife Carnival Queen, representing the water brand Fuentealta. Her whole team was there, from the designer of the fantasy to his assistants, in order to help the Queen dance to the rhythm of the dance troupe, group with which she participates regularly during events. A very unique atmosphere was achieved during the weekend, where there was also a performance by Carmen Miranda with her famous tropical fruit headdress and exotic flowers. The night ended with the music of the DJ’s Eva Olvido and Juana La Cubana, who donated their fees to the total proceeds of this event, as did the dance troupe Los Danzarines Canarios, who were active partners in the event from the moment the organization started.

On the other hand, the tournament was going on throughout the weekend, culminating in the awards ceremony, which took place on Sunday and was led by the directive teams of CIO and the Gran Hotel Bahía del Duque, who handed out trophies to all the winners who participated in the tournaments of tennis and paddle in the sporting facilities of the Gran Hotel Bahía del Duque, and which was attended by the professional tennis player David Marrero, who played several matches during the weekend, cheered on by the crowds and who encouraged him in numerous occasions about his possible participation in the next Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

The trophies, designed by the team of Social Makers, run by SOS Children’s Villages, were presented together with four magnums of Champagne Taittinger, from Bodegas Chivite, by Antonio Escofet, Sales Director of the Grupo Chivite, and Isabel Díaz, Canarian delegate for Grupo Chivite. The classification of the tournament was as follows:

  • Third place:  Yaiza Autuño y Sara Lorenzo.

  • First place: José M. Guerrero y Beatriz Piqué.

However, skill and athletic ability were not the only categories awarded. Together with the tournament winners, they also presented the Emotive Awards, filled with humour, predisposition and style. In this case, Ana Serrano was recognized as the most participatory; Fernando Hamilton, as the most fun; and Nelo Martinez, as best look on the court.

CIO’s Director of Corporate Responsibility will be meeting with the Tenerife delegation of SOS Children’s Villages in the coming days to present them with the money raised, in order to implement the numerous projects the NGO intends to undertake in the short term, and with whom the business group has already participated in other social activities recently.
