Santa Cruz de Tenerife, September 2016.- Compañía de las Islas Occidentales (CIO) ( will celebrate this year the fourth edition of the charity tennis and paddle tournament, “RAQUETAS SOLIDARIAS”, which this year will raise money for the Step by Step Foundation.
The Step by Step Foundation (SbyS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of persons with neurological pathology affecting the Central Nervous System, more specifically Spinal Cord Injury. They use an innovative method of physiotherapy almost unknown in Europe but proceeded by very good results in its application in the United States.
SbyS, who has recently opened a rehabilitation centre in Tenerife, is used most commonly for those with spinal cord injuries, although the treatment is also applicable in some cases of brain injury (stroke, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, etc) as well as other pathologies of neurological origin such as MS, ALS, etc. This treatment allows for the patient to maintain and improve his physical condition that ultimately allows for greater personal autonomy.
Every year several of the CIO companies – Fuentealta, Bahía del Duque Hotel and CIO Sport & Travel, join other organizations such as Grupo Chivite, Taittinger, Incabe and Entréntate con Diego, to make sure that this new edition of “Raquetas Solidarias” is as successful in participation and collaborations as the previous editions.
As is now tradition, the most original part of the event comes in the form of its themed gala dinner which will take place the evening of September 10th and which on this occasion, under the title “Let’s Swing”, will be inspired in the music and style of this popular genre from the 30’s and 40’s. The gala will include a performance by “Paradise Swing Canarias” who will give an open class of this popular dance from the United States, and will also include musical performances by “Barraquito Brothers” and “Los Contratiempos”.
